should the government allow gene therapy research?

The government should allow gene therapy research. Gene therapy has been responsible for many medical advances that have resulted in the better understanding of crucial diseases and how to cure them. Doing more research on gene therapy can be a very positive step in the medical field. This is a type of experimental treatment  that inserts disease resistant traits in to a person's cells to stop the spreading of a disease or make sure that they will not get it in the first place. Although gene therapy may be risky, if somebody is already sick, they might as well try it in hopes that it will cure them of whatever disease they have. i recognize that there are counter arguments for the reasons that i have stated and some are even mentioned in this blog, but i believe that gene therapy is very good but only if it is used for positive medical purposes.

the human genome project

The human genome project was an international scientific reacher project that led to the discovery of new important details about genes and their function, and many other medical advances. This project wad established to determine the sequence of the human genome and understand it more in depth, and identify the genes that it contains. Because of the genetic discoveries made during the human genome project, gene therapy is possible today. Gene therapy is a process that corrects disorders in specific cells. Without the discoveries made during this 13 year long project, gene therapy would not be possible.

other ways of using genetic technology and how it relates to human genetic technologie

Genetic technology has not just been used on humans but also for agricultural purposes. In recent years, farmers and scientists have started using genetic technology to genetically modify food. These modifications are put into place to improve the quality of the crop that is grown in different ways. Some genetic technologies have played a role in making some crops more tolerant of bad weather conditions, allowing them to live longer. Others have help crops grow bigger faster and therefore create more food faster. Genetic technology for agricultural use differs from that for human use but they essentially have the same goal and purpose. in agriculture, some of these technologies are used to kill bugs that are on the plant, which is similar to human technologies that are used to kill viruses in someones body. Some technologies in for agricultural use are used to expand a crop's lifespan which is also used in for human when inserting a trait that allows humans to be healthier and therefore live longer.

pos and cons of human genetic technology

The use of genetic technology on humans can be seen as a good and bad thing. Pros of this are that with these types of technology, scientist can understand genes and their structure more in depth. Genetic technology can help scientists target specific genetic diseases and prevent these harmful genes from passing on to later generation. Genetic technology has played a big role in realization of new scientific discoveries. There is also a bad side of using genetic technology. the use of these type of technology is very risky and has a very high chance of doing more harm then good to whoever it is used on, especially for medical purposes. It is a very crucial process that has to be done properly or not at all.

how does gene manipulation occur

Gene splicing: gene splicing is a type of gene manipulation that involves cutting out a peace of a certain type of DNA that codes for a specific trait the inserting that peace into the desired DNA. To do so, a restriction enzyme must cut the DNA sequence out of the DNA, then cut the DNA it is going into and attach them together. It is very important that that same restriction enzyme cuts the different DNA because this is what allows the cut out trait to attach to the new DNA. the result of gene manipulation are called transgenic organisms.

Gel electrophoresis works by separating fragments of DNA

What is genetic technology?

Genetic technology is a range of different activities associated with understanding different aspects of genes, modifying genes and transferring genes from one host to the next. Gene technology is very important in gin engineering and the concept of designer babies.

Should the government allow designer babies?

The government should not allow designer babies! If any of you have watched the movie Gattaga, it is exactly what would happen if the government does allow it. The world as we know it will completely change. People will become a science experiment and will be judged on wether or not their scientific traits are perfect. Non-genetically perfect people will be overlooked regardless of the fact that some of them might have talents or passions for something that they could be great at. Designer babies will be extremely detrimental to society and should definitely not be allowed.

cons of inheritable gene modificaion

Inheritable gene modification is a bad thing because of how it turns kids into objects rather than human beings. Parents will no longer treat their children with unconditional love but rather look at their kids as projects. Further more, children who's genes have not been modified will be treated like outcasts. The new society will start judging people based on wether or not they are perfect. The "naturally born" people will be segregated and mistreated and nothing less than perfection will be accepted, making people even more divided which is very harmful to society.

pros of inheritable gene modification

One pro of inheritable gene modification is that parents can make sure that their kids do not inherit any of the genetic diseases that could be harmful to their baby. This can make it possible for babies to live a longer and healthier life. inheritable gene modification can essentially make people as perfect as they can be. this second pro is a great one because someone's kids can be made to be perfect in any way their parents want them to be, for example, smatter, prettier, athletic, healthier... this will allow them to do great things in their future and be successful, as well as be great and intelligent people who can help the world in many different ways raging from scientific advances to global political issues.

what is inheritable gene modification?

Inheritable gene modification is the modification of the inherited genetic information of a human or animal so that the modified trait or gene is passed on to the next generations.

What is a designer baby?

A designer baby is a baby that was made in vitro using the best possible genes for it parents in hopes of it being born perfect or based on what the percentage prefer. These genes can vary from the sex of the baby to the way it thinks.

Welcome to my blog!! In this blog I will be talking about gene modification and cloning. This blog will also be about the big issue on wheater or not designer babies are a good or bad thing to do in our society today. I hope you enjoy it!
